Commissioning Solutions
Sprint Internet Data Centers
New York • Boston • Atlanta • Dallas • Denver • Los
Angeles • Santa Clara, CA
To ensure Sprint’s newly constructed data
centers were completed and functioning on schedule, ViroCon
stepped in immediately providing practical and extensive
engineering services. The problems were identified and
the solutions developed which allowed the centers to open
and be productive according to the intended timeline.
Sprint constructed internet data centers in major cities
nationwide in multiple phases. All sites included an
initial build-out of 15,000 to 30,000 sf of raised-floor
space, readily expandable to 75,000 to 100,000 sf. All
sites were designed for 50 watts per square foot of
floor area initially, with ultimate build-out to 150
watts per square foot.

Problem
Fast Track Yields Fast Problems
The facilities were concurrently designed and constructed
with a fast track approach. Aggressive design and construction
schedules created many issues that jeopardized the completion
of the facilities by the required dates. |

Solution
Hand’s On Commissioning
To allow the fastest possible turnover of each completed facility,
these extremely fast-paced projects required our commissioning team
to work side-by-side with the contractors, manufacturers and design
engineers so that each system could be commissioned and tested as
it became available.
ViroCon’s hands on engineering efforts expedited project schedules
and allowed Sprint’s internet data centers to meet critical “go
live” dates. Our team worked to identify problems, develop solutions
and coordinate resolutions as they were identified during commissioning.
On a nationwide basis, our efforts enabled Sprint to open their data
center doors touting zero downtime facilities that worked. |
